About the area |
Ossipee is the county seat of Carroll County. Once the site of an Indian stockade to protect the Ossipee, an Algonquin tribe, from the Mohawks in the west. Ossipee Lake is a popular vacation site. The area is a major source of sand and gravel which is sent by railroad to Boston, MA. John Greenleaf Whittier, the poet, was a summer resident here. |
