"The City That Trees Built" was a center for logging and wood industries. It is located along the Androscoggins River at the edge of the White Mountains. Nansen Ski Club, named for Fridtjof Nansen who skied across Greenland in 1888, is the nation's first ski club. Earl Silas Tupper, inventor of Tupperware, lived here. Androscoggin Valley Hospital is the largest business here. |
