The Borough of Hillsdale has nearly 10,000 residents. The town has quiet street lined with beautiful trees and pretty houses. and there is great public transportation, including New Jersey Transit and Rockland Coaches which is a professional Charter Service. The downtown area has a colorful homey look, which many strip malls selling local handicrafts and other specialty gifts. The borough also has many clubs and volunteer groups. One Club that needs mention is the 'Sun Dial Club'. This Club was founded in 1931 and celebrated its 75th anniversary just recently. The Sun Dial Club members, divide areas amongst themselves and work in groups on 'their area' for nearly 9 months a year, planting dogwood trees, flowering plants etc. No wonder they have such elegant streets and public places. Routes 304, 502, 503 and GSP carry a fair amount of traffic through the town.
