Avalon township is an oceanfront community of 2300 people. The Atlantic Ocean borders Avalon on one side. US Route 9 and Garden State Parkway are nearby too. Avalon is a shore-resort and tourism is big business. Flotilla, a Mardi-Gras type annual celebration is held in Avalon. It is fun for the participants but an annoyance for some residents.
