About the area |
The township of Maurice River gets it's name from the River Maurice that meanders through the region. Locals believe that the place got it's name from a Native Indian folk tale. Most residents are life-long residents who enjoy the slow pace of life in this township. The East Point Lighthouse built in mid 1800s is located in this township and is the only lighthouse in Cumberland County as of today. This historic village of Port Elizabeth which was a thriving business hub in late 1700s is now a quiet community in this township. River Maurice has now been designated as a Maurice National Scenic and Recreational River. |
