Jefferson is named after Thomas Jefferson, the President of the United States at the time. So many Washingtons in NJ they finally chose another President. Population of about 20K. Jefferson is known for many lakes and ponds in the region. Lake Hopatcong, is possibly the most famous one; it is the largest lake in the state of NJ too. Bowling Green Golf and Tennis Club and Berkshire Valley Golf Club are nearby too. There is a Jefferson Township Day each year, which includes entertainment, food and festivities for one and all. Rt 620 passes through.
