Some say this town got it's name from 'Oxford' in London, while others say it was named after John Axford, a prominent town resident in 1730s. Oxford Furnace, a furnace listed in the National Register of Historic Places is located in Oxford. It is said that this furnace was built in 1741. The Oxford Furnace Lake which is a stone's throw away from the Municipal Court gets it's name from this historic furnace. US Route 46 is within a quarter mile of the town's border. The Warren County Arts Group has a professional gallery in the Municipal Building building.
