| About the area |
The county is named for Schuyler Colfax, the Seventh Vice President of the United States. The former Colfax county courthouse, circa 1881, is now the really exciting Santa Fe Trail museum. On display at this facility are art exhibits and artifacts depicting and representative of the history of the Santa Fe trail and the life of the early pioneers. Most people drive to work, but in this small village you can bike or walk to work. Enjoy fishing at Springer lake known for its northern pike. If you travel Southeast of Springer on US 56 you will come to one of the many ghost towns in New Mexico at Taylor Springs. |
