Parts of Quay and Roosevelt counties were taken to create Curry county around 1909 and it was named after the territorial governor of New Mexico from 1907 to 1910. The Clovis Civic center is the site of trade shows, conventions, training sessions, businesss meetings and community social events. If you travel a little over 10 miles South of Clovis you will come upon the Black Water Draw museum and Archeology site. The museum has on display fluted points, stone and bone weapons and tools. Mammoth bones remain in the ground where they were first revealed by excavation.
