About the area |
this is the home of Organ Mountain National Recreation Area. Mesilla was at one time 'no mans land" because of a dispute between Mexico and the US. It was resolved in 1853 with the Gadsden Purchase. Two stagecoach lines crossed here years ago. In the wild West Days the community was frequented by Billy the Kid Pat Garrett and Pancho Villa. |
