Bayard is surrounded by the Gila and Mogollon mountains and the Gila National forest. Although the forest is mostly wilderness it is possible to engage in several activities in its environs. There are campgrounds, picnic areas and cliff dwellings. There are spots for fishing and wild trails for hiking and horseback riding. The area is prone to flooding and visitors should check with the local Ranger District office before entering forested areas. The Bayard Community center, built in the 1990's has meeting rooms, offices and a large multi-use room which serves as a gym, theater and meeting space.
