About the area |
Some might consider Vaughn a ghost town especially after seeing the original main street with its buildings intact but not in operation and not occupied. However the town still has plenty of businesses and people. They might need a few more people though; their high school football team is a 6-man team. In the 1880's the town was a stopover on the Stinson cattle trail. It was at the intersection of two major railroads, the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe and El Paso & Southern Railroads intersected. The presence of the ATSF can be seen in the its old depot which is still standing. Associated with the railroad was the Harvey House eatery, part of a chain of restaurants and hotels by that name. |
