About the area

When Roy was founded around 1901 it was situated about 2 miles East of its present site. The town was relocated to its present site around 1916 when the Southern Pacific and the El Paso & Southwestern railroads came through the area. After World War II, new roads were built allowing residents to travel elsewhere to shop; reducing the business base in the town. Presently it is a farming community and with a population of about 200 people, Roy has El Centro Family Health, a village and water department, and an elementary and high school. A new problem has arrived in town. Medical marijuana is grown smack in the middle of the town and many residents are complaining of the odor emanating from the plants.
