| About the area |
The county was named for a Pennsylvania senator who supported New Mexico statehood. A visit to the Mesalands Community College's Dinosaur museum will give you a glimpse of the age when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The exhibits consist of replicated and original fossils, from tiny footprint casts to the 40 foot long skeleton of a Torvosaurus and the world's largest collection of bronze skeletons, fossils, and replicas of prehistoric creatures. After you've had a look at the world's largest mural devoted to Route 66 in the United States you might be ready for an outing at Ute Lake State park or Conchas Lake State park.
