| About the area |
This community is located on US 84 on the banks of the Rio Grande River. The Bond House museum sits on the Plaza de Española and is housed in the historic house, built by a family from Canada who came here to invest in sheep and land, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is a showplace of turn-of-the-century craftsmanship in the intricate woodwork, parquet floors, and brass fixtures. Other exhibits, rotated through the museum, feature historical artifacts and photographs of daily life in the Española Valley and various pieces of art from local community groups. The Richard L. Lucero Recreation and Aquatic center's facilities include a swimming pool, a weight room, a gymnasium and the Oñate Room. Artists and musicians are attracted to the region for its rich cultural background. The Santo Nino Festival of the Arts is held in April by the Northern NM Hilos Culturales. |
