About the area |
In addition to the farmers and ranches you find in this county it is known for growing pinto beans, corn, alfalfa and pumpkins. The Manzano mountains and Salinas National monument are located in this county. Created from the Eastern part of Valencia County in the Spring of 1903, the county was named for one of the people who helped get the New Mexico Central railroad built. The annual Torrance county fair held at the fairgrounds in Estancia in August feature a junior rodeo, 4-H exhibits, animal contests, horse contests, home arts, photography, a baby animal zoo, hot dog cookoff and lots of food and entertainment. |
