Mountainair was founded around 1903 and when the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad built a cutoff route to Belen through the Abo Pass around 1906 Mountainair, located at the peak of summit of Abo Pass, was the site of a depot. The depot remained in operation through the late 1960's. With Mountainair sitting at an altitude of 6,495 feet, you will find cool summer nights, Indian summer days and mild winters. There are breathtaking views of Chupadera mesa and Manzano mountains. It s the home of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Munument. |
