About the area |
October is the time for the Arts and Crafters Festival. There is a great Model Airplane Club here. Fourth of July events include rodeos, street dance, parade, and clowns. The Tourism Center offers several tours including the volcano at Mt. Capulin. Clayton Lake, to the North of town, was built in the 1950's by the construction of a dam across Seneca Creek. The state park here has camping and picnicking facilities and a group shelter. The lake is a great place to catch trout, catfish, bass and walleye. However during the Winter, when the lake is closed to fishing, it is not unusual to see duck species such as mallards, pintails, and teals and Canadian geese here as well as the occasional bald eagle. A half mile trail leads to dinosaur tracks on the dam spillway.
