| About the area |
The village is near the confluence of the Mohawk River and Oriskany Creek. NY Rte 69 passes through the village. The village's name comes from the Oneida Indian word Oriska meaning River of Nettles. The turning point of the Revolutionary War occurred after the Battle of Oriskany, the bloodiest battle of the war.
The Oriskany Museum stand on the former Erie Canal site.
