Population of 4,000 people this town is the historic site of the Music Event the Woodstock Festival of 1969. At that time many famous rock musicians such as Jimmie Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, the Mama's and Papa's and Crosby, Stills, and Nash performed at the Festival. Many people stayed in a farmers field where this was held. They camped out in tents and people trucked in food. Many famous celebrities came to the Festival also. The show was televised and many Americans watched the event on the nightly news.
