About the area |
The growth of this community, located in the watershed of Monday Creek, started when the New Straitsville Mining Company established this town back in the 1870's. The vision and efforts of the executives of this company were well paid off. Unfortunately, the fire in this mine is still alive and strong today which sets a world record due its duration. |
