In the middle 1900's Sandusky County smiled and celebrated the incorporation of this community. Port Clinton, Ballville, Stony Prairie, and Fremont are the "walls" of the inspiration of the Winesburg stories. The workforce of this municipality in the late 19th century became part of the the Elmore Manufacturing Company, brain of the Elmore Convertible Runabout. The motors moved to the Whirlpool Corporation plant, where washing machines replaced the engines of Elmore. |
