| About the area |
The earliest homesteads in the area were donation land claims granted by President Lincoln with the first 111 immigrants arriving in 1841. The founder of the City of Gladstone, however, was a purchaser of a 640 acre donation land claim from the descendent of one of the original land claim owners. He had part of his land layed out for a town and prepared lots for sale thus establishing the city of Gladstone. Meldrum Bar State Park lies to the West of the city on the Willamette river. This large park offers playing fields with lots of room for teams to play soccer and baseball at the same time. There is a boat launch and dock on the Willamette River and a community dirt-bike (non-motorized) area with earthen ramps and trails for biking and nature walks. There is also a large community garden area in which residents can rent a plot for the season/
