About the area |
Astoria lies along the Columbia river to its North. It is the oldest American settlement West of the Rockies. Many of its old streets are lined with historic Victorian homes. A visit to Fort Astoria park offers a glimpse into this past. This park has a partial replica of the fort constructed by John Jacob Astorâs fur traders. The Heritage Museum has exhibits representing Clatsop Countyâs history, including natural history, geology, Native American artifacts and events important to early immigrants and settlers of the region. Children will enjoy a visit to the Uppertown Firefighters Museum which has a collection of hand-pulled and horse-drawn fire engines dating from the middle of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century. |
