Battle Rock City Park is the location of the Curry county visitor's center as well as Cape Blanco Lighthouse, the oldest standing tower in Oregon above a natural open water bay. If you are feeling sweaty; you can make use of the out door shower and then eat a quick lunch at the picnic tables. A couple from Massachusetts, who were originally from Ireland, settled in the area in the middle of the nineteenth century. The husband was a progressive and prosperous dairyman who built his ranch from the original acreage to nearly 2,000 acres. The ranch house they later built, the Patrick Hughes House, an example of late Victorian architecture is still standing and open to the public.
