About the area |
With over 2,300 acres of public parks and open spaces, Bend boasts an excellent park system. Several of these run along the Deschutes river. Drake Park has one-half mile of riverfront property, Farewell Bend Park includes three acres of native riparian planting and in-stream wetland restoration as well a viewing bridge with a railing making it possible to view the river up close. Kids can play pirates on the green and white boat in Harmon Park.
Columbia park and Pioneer park are two others on the river. Pilot Butte State Park, just to the West of Bend, has a trail leading to the top of 4,138-foot Pilot Butte providing a 360-degree view of the surrounding high-desert country.
