| About the area |
Miners looking to strike it rich settled in the town in the early part of the 19th century, after the discovery of gold in the area. The Beeman-Martin house, built at the beginning of the 20th century, is the home of the Gold Hill Historical Society Museum. The house was completely refurbished through the efforts of groups of volunteers. The Gold Dust Day festival, in early June, celebrates the city's beginnings relating to gold mining. The celebration includes a parade, antique car show and music. Demonstrations of historic crafts such as gold panning and horse drawn wagon rides are also featured at the festival. Laurel Hill Golf Course, a nine hole course which lies to the Southest of town, is open to the public. With over 1900 yards of links and reasonable rates; the course is a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon. |
