Grants Pass lies along the bamks of the Rogue river which offers thrills to whitwater rafters. The first settlers and industrialists came in search of gold. The city came into its own when the railroad was extended in to the small town in the latter part of the 19th century. When the gold petered out, the city depended on lumber for its survival. It is now a bustling town of just under 25,000 people. Classic car enthusiasts from all over the United States gather here each July for the city's Back to the Fifties Celebration. This week long festival presents three free concerts; a 50's music and oldies tunes concert, a nostalgia, music and fun show and a last night dance concert performed by a national act which usually features impersonators of legendary performers such as Elvis and Connie Francis.
