About the area |
Can't blame folks in Lakeview for bragging about being the Tallest Town in Oregon with an elevation of over 4700 feet. After its establishment, Lakeview became a commercial center for area sheep and cattle ranches. Today Lakeview is a business center for the region, with agriculture and lumber serving as the main industries. In the early part of the 20th century fires in this city kept the fire departments busy. The first of three major fires destroyed many of the businesses in town, the second was well contained; but the last one was the undoing of many of the homes which escaped the first two fires. Lakeview attracts many enthusiasts of hang gliding and paragliding and has been the scene of national championships for both sports. |
