When they talk about small towns they might well be talking about Scio; with a population of under 800 living in an area of 0.3 square miles. Thomas Creek which runs through the center of Scio provides a real challenge for Whitewater Kayakers. There are steep rocky drops and rapids with a mean river gradient close to 30 fpm. The former West Scio train depot is now the site of the Scio Historical Depot Museum which exhibits a caboose and pioneer artifacts. |
