| About the area |
Independence lies along the Willamette river. Taking advantage of its location; the biggest park in Independence is Riverview park. The Amphitheater here is the scene of concerts, on Friday evenings, and movie shows, on Thursday evenings, throughout the summer. Other events such as Western Days, a Fourth of July celebration, National Night Out and a Mexican Fiesta are held here as well. Independence State Airport, a public airfield just North of the city, is owned by the Oregon Department of Aviation and its paved runway is 3142 feet long. A group of air charter operators provide a nationwide network of of close to 100 jets with service to or from the airport. |
