About the area |
In the early 1900's, the sandy beach in the Rockaway Beach area was nearly isolated to all but a few. the Pacific Railway and Navigation Company opened a rail line to nearby towns before 1910. A few short years later the first passenger train came to Rockaway Beach; where the Friday afternoon train brought fathers out to join their families for the week-end at the beach resorts. Rockaway Rocktoberfest, started in 2009, is held in October featuring two days of music on the beach. This event is a fund raiser for the Tillamook County Food Bank, Neah-Kah-Nie School Music programs and Rockaway Parks and Recreation Department. The event should continue to showcase at least the 20 musical acts which appeared at the first fest. |
