Athena Municipal Court

State Road 11, to the South, and Main Street as well the other streets of Athena are lovely roads to drive on; just remember to obey the traffic laws or you may end up in its Municipal court.

Athena's origin was a stage coach stop with postal service operated by an early settler to the region. He was joined by others who purchased tracts of land in the second half of the 19th century and set up businesses. To this was added the establishment of a newspaper, the arrival of doctors, two railroads which stopped at two train depots and a bank. You might think with a name like Athena,based on the rolling hills around the town, you would look for things Greek in this town. But you would be wrong. Each July, the Athena Caledonian Games celebrates Scottish heritage and traditions. You can try to toss the hammer or the caber or attend the outdoor concert featuring bagpipe bands. There's Highland dancing, piping and Scottish heavy event competitions, sheep dog trials, clan tents, free entertainment, a parade, a 5K run, vendors, Celtic story telling and harp performances to enjoy.
