About the area |
The son of a settler in the area known as East Butte in 1852 built a general store, a meeting hall and later served on the Oregon Legislature. The general store became the home for the area's post office, and East Butte was renamed Tigardville. With the arrival of the Oregon Electric Railroad in 1910 came the development of Main Street and also the shortening of the town's name to Tigard. The city of Tigard has more than 300 acres of parks, greenways and natural areas. The annual Family Fest takes place in mid September and features a 5K Fun Run/Walk whose participants are treated to a free breakfast with all the fixings. A Saturday afternoon hot dog and hamburger barbecue is served followed by an ice cream giveaway at for Tigard's birthday.
