This community was founded in the late 1700's and was named for settler and business owner Sam Gettys. Because of its historic significance, many museums and tourist attractions may be found in this small community such as the American Civil War Museum, the Battlefield Military Museum, and the Gettysburg Battle Theater. Gettysburg is also at the crossroads for many routes in southern Pennsylvania. So that after your visit there, you will find it easy to continue on to other towns and cities in the surrounding area.
