"The Great Cove" also known as "Spang Mills", is today the home of 2400 inhabitants and its beauty is intoxicating. Incorporated back in the late 19th century, it is part of the Altoona metro area and neighbor of Claysburg, Newry, Martinsburg, and Duncansville boroughs. Ancestries from Germany and Ireland constitute the strongest foreign colonies which were present during the founding of this territory, when the Spang family started the operations of the grist mill industry in Roaring Springs.
