The settlement of this community started back in the 1770s and its incorporation took place in the late 1880s, during the tough times of the "Great Flood" which hurt deeply this land irrigated by the Conemaugh River. This tragedy that brought together this municipality brought sorrow and tears to several families because of the 2210 deaths registered by the local authorities and the economic consequences. Today the topography of Johnstown reflects a very well preserved land divided in several neighborhoods with their own essence, multiple suburbs and more than 5 townships.
