About the area

Thanks to the generosity of Jefferson, Clearfield and McKean Counties, back in the 1840s, Pennsylvania State welcomed a new county named after the Elk into its map. This territory, located in the Saint Marys metro area, is refreshed by the Clarion River and it is the proud father of the Benezette Township and the exquisite Winslow Hill. Rigway borough, incorporated in the 1880s and home of more than 4200 residents, serves as the county seat and home of the Ridgway Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous. German and Irish influences have filled this land with their spirit and cuisine, where 4/10 of the population report German ancestry and 1/10 reports Irish ancestry.
