The Tuscumbia River once used to flood the whole town and the city. There w as no settlement here because of its flooding several centuries ago. Otherwise this would have been the perfect land for agriculture. However the native Indians were smart enough to realize that the flooding could actually kill them. They moved out of the rivers way and their culture respected nature. However finally a city was built and the modern civilization knows how to control nature and its forces. The river does not flood nor does it remotely cross the watermark.
