In the western part of Texas, there is a lovely territory established during the 1880s sharing frontiers with Jeff Davis, Pecos, Presidio, and Terrell Counties in Texas; while it also shares borders with Manuel Benavides, Acuna, and Ocampo in Mexico. Served by several school districts including Alpine, Terlingua, and Marathon; this community is the homeland of the Sul Ross State University which is the pride of this land informed by the Alpine Avalanche newspaper. Some of the most notable location in this territory of more than 6190 square miles of extension are Youngs Ranch, Ainsleys Cabin, Mouth of the Maravillas, Dove Mountain Ranch, Nichols Ranch, Gooden Windmill, and the Castolon Historic District.
