About the area
Named for James Collinsworth (first chief justice of Texas), this territory served by Wellington city as its county seat is the proud father of four communities including Dodson and Samnorwood. This dry state was established in the early 1890s and it has a total extension of close to 920 square miles. The northern border of this land is given by the lands of Wheeler and Beckham (OK) Counties, the southern frontier is represented by Harmon (OK) and Childress Counties, and finally the western and eastern limits of Collingsworth County are framed by Donley, Hall, and Harmon Counties respectively.
