About the area |
Flaming Gorge National recreation area is located at the Northern boundary of the city and can be accessed via SR 43. It is not unusual to see deer, antelope, rabbit, fox, bobcat and mountain lions who inhabit the recreation area. When Manila was settled around 1898, Admiral Dewey captured Manila in the Philippines prompting the settlers to name the town Manila. The original homes in town were log cabins of only one or two rooms and domestic water had to be be hauled from a central tank. The Flaming Gorge project brought in many workers and an increase in population. Recreation and tourists have replaced agriculture and ranching as the major portion of the town's economy. |
