About the area
The Farmington area before the 1860's was inhabited by Native Americans although fur trappers, explorers and emigrants came through the area at an earlier date. A Mormon pioneer who first settled in Salt Lake city, in the late 1840's, traveled North to this area to graze his cattle. After his family had been settled here other settlers followed to this are first called North Cottonwood and then Lagoon before getting its present name. Incorporation took place in the early 1890's. Among the five nearby canyons; Farmington Canyon is suitable for hiking, jogging, bicycling, snowmobiling, picnicking, horseback riding, fishing and camping. Farmington Festival Days take place in early July and feature a tennis tournament, a family bike race and entertainment. The city has eleven parks, a number of trails and community swimming pool
