Duchesne District Court is the district court of Duchesne county in the Eight Judicial district of Utah.
About the area
The major portion of the county was once part of the Uintah and Ouray Indian reservation and even to this day most of the county is owned or controlled by individual Indians or the Ute Indian Tribe. President Abraham Lincoln created the Uintah reservation to be the permanent home of the Uintah and White River Utes. In the Summer of 1905 homesteading got started on the reservation under the Dawes Act enacted at the beginning of the 20th century. However, allotments of land were made to Indians of the Uintah, White River and Uncompahgre Ute tribes before homesteading was started. Although they were sometimes successful and sometimes not; several irrigation projects were started to divert water from the many streams flowing through the county to the farms. The economy of the county is largely dependent on the livestock industry but also profits from the oil and natural gas extraction industries from the rich deposits of these natural resources in the county.
