About the area |
A homesteader, under the Dawes act, decided to claim the land where Roosevelt now exists, on a small, flat topped mesa. He installed his sons there. After a number of years he returned to the site to lay out the streets, alleys and lots of a town. He also was the principal of the Dry Gulch Irrigation Company which built canals, ditches and laterals so that water flowed down many streets of the town. He wanted to name the town Dry Gulch City, but through the perseverance of his wife, who was a personal friend of President Theodore Roosevelt, the town's name was changed to Roosevelt City. There are three public parks in Roosevelt. Constitution park offers such amenities as a walking path, skate park, soccer field, an outdoor amphitheater, horseshoe pits, ballfields, pavilions and playground. City park offers a playground, pavilion, ballfields and a swimming pool. Old Mill park has a city center clock, a small stage and pavilions.
