About the area |
When one of the four major units of the Colorado River Storage Project, the Glen Canyon Unit, was under construction; the area now known as Big Water was set up as a camp for the workers on the project. After completion of the project the area, then known as âGlen Canyon Cityâ was vacated by the workers to near being empty. In the early 1980âs the town was incorporated and renamed Big Water. This town of less than 500 people is is bordered by Lake Powell, the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument provided visitors with plenty of opportunities to see magnificent rock formations. |
