In the early part of the 19th century Hudson Bay company trapped bear and beaver at the Bear lake area in Rich county. Shortly after the Homestead act of 1812 was passed by the United States Congress; the Mormom church sent settlers into the county to gain control over the area. The county's economy is dependent upon farms, alfalfa fields and in particular livestock. The city of Randolph has the benefit of three waterways, Bear river, Big Creek and Little creek.
