About the area |
Silver first brought people to Asta around 1865. A mere seven years later close to eight thousand seasonal residents lived in the town. After a second mining boom dwindled out and the Great depression; approximately 1800 acres of surface rights were deeded to the U.S. Forest Service around 1937, by the mayor of this town, for development of a ski area. Deep powder snow and mountains here draw many skiers from all over to this area, swelling its population of under 400. This city also holds several festivals a year. There is still enough snow around here to stage the March Snowflake festival. THis event features Ski with a Ranger, Field Day-Biathalon, flycasting, Hole in One, Gnome hunt, Yoga, Love Give Utah, Chili Cook Off and a dance party. The Summer brings out the beautiful mountain flowers and the Wasatch Wildflower festival where food and music abound. In August the Wasatch Art Soiree provides a venue for young artists to display their work, attendees to enjoy the food dished up by local chefs and listen to some good music by the various groups. |
