About the area |
Several old homes, Hansen-Sparks home, Frederick Christian Sorenson home, Johnson-Nielsen home and the Niels Ols Andersen home, still remain in this town and along with such monuments as the Peace Tree, Isaac Behunin and Indian Massacre attest to the history of this town. Ephraim is home to Snow college part of which is the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts which hosts many cultural events throughout the year. The Scandinavian Heritage festival is held at the end of each May to celebrate the ancestry of the Danes, Norwegians, Swedes and Icelanders who settled in the area. In addition to the gourmet Scandinavian smorgasbord this festival, held at Snow college and at Pioneer park, has players in authentic costumes, dancing, storytelling, entertainment, historical tours, craft and food booths. The annual âVike on a Bike,â a Scandinavian festival mountain bike race is characterized by the Viking decorations participants put on their bikes for the opening parade. |
