About the area |
Wendoiver lies right on the border with Nevada affording the residents the opportunity to gamble at nearby casinos. Wendover airport lies on the Southern border of the city. The idea for Wendover field first came about in the late 1930's. When the U.S. Congress provided funds in 1940 for the purchase of land for bombing and gunnery ranges near Wendover; the Army Air Corps started building structures in the Fall of Wendover which became Wendover Field. The airfield museum is located in the operations building just south of the WW II control tower. From time to time tours of the atomic bomb loading pit, Enola Gay Hangar, Bombsight building and other sites are available. On display in the museum are uniforms, aircraft models, gunsights, photos and a diorama of Wendover field as it would have appeared during World War II. |
